Although the Cyathea Cooperi is reasonably winter-hardy, -1C to -7C, it does require protection during short, light frost periods. It is also possible to keep the plant as a patio plant in a large pot in a sheltered place, which can be brought inside during the winter months or overwintered in a frost-free location.
It is important to give the plant sufficient water on the trunk, as the roots of this fern are mainly located in the trunk. This allows the plant to absorb water and retain moisture, which contributes to healthy growth.
Although the Cyathea Cooperi grows faster than the Dicksonia Antarctica, the latter is more resistant to frost. It is therefore important to consider the specific conditions of the location before choosing between these two types of tree ferns.
